Why I built ASTI

Matt Harvey

I didn’t set out to build an AI company. I trained as a commercial diver and then became an airline pilot. I’ve worked as a director and CEO, climbing ladders in industries that demand precision and calm under pressure. On paper, it sounds like a straight line; in reality, it’s been anything but.

I'm neurodivergent. I have ADHD and dyslexia. Every job I took on was both an outlet for my fast, curious brain and a constant test against systems that assumed everyone thinks the same way. Diving taught me how to manage risk in an unforgiving environment. Flying taught me the power of checklists and standard procedures. Leadership taught me how to build and scale teams. And at every step, the tools I used (planners, inboxes, spreadsheets) punished me for thinking differently. They demanded my brain bend to their structure, and when I couldn't, the implicit message was "try harder."

As neurodivergent people, we owe it to ourselves to change that. We live in a world designed largely by and for neurotypical minds. That design isn't malicious, but it's why so many of us end up overwhelmed, exhausted, or underperforming compared to our potential. Throughout history, fast‑thinking, pattern‑spotting neurodivergent brains have solved some of humanity's biggest problems. I believe we can do that even more when we're not fighting our tools.

That's why ASTI exists. It's personal: a culmination of years of struggle to make sense of a world that wasn't built for me, and a conviction that AI changes the game. Artificial intelligence can take on the parts we find hardest (the sequencing, the prioritising, the holding of a thousand small details) so we can lean into the rapid, creative thinking that makes us who we are. It's about bending tools to our brains, not contorting our brains to fit outdated tools.

I built ASTI because “try harder” isn’t a strategy. I built it because after decades of adapting to other people’s systems, I realised we deserve systems built for us. If you’ve ever felt capable but scattered, if you see the world differently and want to keep solving its problems without drowning in its noise, ASTI is for you. We’re creating technology that honours neurodiversity rather than erasing it. I hope you’ll join us.
